This is a Current System Analysis and Database Creation for Books R’ Us. This analysis and creation shows solutions to data management and storage within given business requirements along with best practices to minimize redundancy. This artifact was created in the fall semester at SNHU of 2016 for IT-330 (Database Design and Management.) The original purpose of this artifact was to help solve storage problems and better manage Books R’ Us’s database. This artifact demonstrates the objective since it was necessary to design, implement, and evaluate the businesses needs and apply those to provide an effective solution for the storage issue. Through this project, I got to design and structure a database that fit with in the businesses parameters. I applied knowledge gained through this course and others to effectively write Structured Query Language to the database creation. I also solved the storage and redundancy issues that the business was having with their current system. I choose this item since I believe it shows not just the asked objective but my skills in database management and creation. I feel that this project as a whole encompasses my excellence in this area and my ability to create a solution given a set of requirements. This artifact also shows the ability to structure and build a database using Structured Query Language (SQL.) I learned from this project that knowing SQL proficiently to make the database efficient is necessary, as well as understanding the businesses needs for an effective database that can be accessed through their physical locations and website. The most challenging part of this project was taking the database creation and representing it graphically. It was difficult for me to take all the information necessary in the data tables and transfer these into diagrams. I believe that if I had this project to do over again, I would take only the most important parts to add to the graphical representations. This way, they would not be as difficult, especially now that I have a deeper understanding that graphs are for quick communication and do not need every detail. I believe this project was designed much like that of real world problems since the company was expanding and growing an online presence. This is true of most businesses today; everyone is not just selling in brick and mortar, but in the online sphere as well. This gave me the experience that I needed to be able to effectively solve and better a business so that I can be successful in the real world.
