Top Work from Home Applications

I never would have guessed the reason behind writing this blog but now with the current state of the word due to COVID-19 and more people working online I figured I would share the best work from home tools. I have compiled this list to include everything from my favorite conferencing software and apps to productivity. This is just a small list and can work well in a verity of situations from small businesses and teams to larger corporations and even in education. This does not include any social media forms of communication since those are more for general socializing and not necessary work. Lastly, before hoping in to my list, make sure you check out the references below for more applications and software suggestions. There are several options that are available this is just my list.

Conferencing Software Applications

These are my top 3 conferencing software applications.  I narrowed it down to the ones that offer the best options. Some options are even free depending on size and time needed.

  1. Zoom

Zoom is one of the most popular video conferencing solutions for individuals and businesses. It has verity of plans that are based on size and needs. These prices range from free basic plans to 19.99 a month for larger enterprises.

Part of these features are meetings can include up to 200 participants, cloud storage, custom emails and URL’s for meetings.

  1. Skype

Microsoft’s most popular video conference and calling service is great for individuals and business alike. This application has several features like 250 attendees in a meeting and virtual whiteboard capabilities. A basic Skype plan is free. If you need to sign up for business plans there is a $2 per user fee per month.

  1. Google Hangout/Google Meet

Google Hangouts is Googles version of a basic video conferencing application. It’s not quite as rich in features as its brother application Google Meet but it still works great for video communication. It also cost $6.00 for a basic plan with an upgrade features that go up to $25.00

Google Meet is like the fully upgraded brother of Google Hangouts and similar to Zoom. With features like calendar syncing, conference room booking and a more polished interface. It’s great for the business professional. It’s pricing is also included in the G-suite price like Google Hangouts.

Productivity and Management Applications

These are great applications to use for collaborations on projects and more. I chose these application below since they offer a verity of uses and are either free or paid depending on how you use them.

  1. Slack

Slack is a great free tool to use for both small and medium sized businesses. It has features like real-time conversation with teams. It also allows a simple video calling feature for business and groups. It a good tool for group discussions and informal chats to take place.

  1. Google Suite

As part of google application offerings in the G-suite there are integrations for not just their own apps but others as well like Trello. Like above Google offers Hangouts and Meet along with a host of other productive applications all nicely packaged in the G-suite. It also allows for you to add applications from the G-suite marketplace. One that stood out to me as an add-on was Trello.

Trello is a good app for keeping up with process-based projects and tasks. It allows workers to see what steps need to be done and who’s working on what.  You can set priorities and assign each task for group members. Trello has free and business pricing.

  1. Monday

Is another great communication tool that can help businesses focus on organizing and collaborating on tasks. It’s features include real-time updates on activates and integrations with third-party services like Google, Ebay, and Mailchimp. This app has a clear navigation and is easy to set up teams and projects with assignments. Monday also offers a verity of plans for business.

Final Thoughts

This is just a small list of services that are offered now so that business and individuals can work online making it possible to work from home. These applications are some of my favorite and work well in a verity of situations. From video conferencing and meeting to scheduling tasks and assignments for workers each of these applications provides essential connection tools so business to keep going.
