As were all moving in to a working at home environment I thought I would be good to share some of my tips. Since if you didn’t know I usually work from home as a web designer and social media manager. I loving being able to work from anywhere especially home. These are my top 10 tips for working from home.
This one for me a big helper even though for me early doesn’t necessarily mean 8 in the morning it means starting when I’m fresh and had a cup of coffee in the morning. Starting soon after I wake up helps me feel productive and it helps me get things done right off in the morning. It’s a good way to start your day and accomplish at last one or more tasks.
Along those lines with starting the day early making a to-do list a great way to know and plan out what you need to do for the day. I usually start my to-do list the night before while I’m in bed this way I know what I need to do for the next day. I also like to make a priority list so I know a specific number of tasks has to be done that day.
When writing your to-do list set 7 things that you know you can get done. This way you can feel like you have accomplished something. Since 7 things is the about the limit for how many things you can get done in a regular work day.
Setting a time limit for projects is another great way I get things done. So for me setting a 3 hour time period in the morning is when I can accomplish a lot of my work. It also gives you a set time in which to do things so that way you know after 3 hours you can take a break or for me it’s usually lunch time. So I know I have accomplished a lot even before lunch.
This was one of my goals for working at home this year I am really bad to stay in Pj’s all day but
I have found that if I go ahead and get dressed it can help me be more productive. It helps me to separate time for working and relaxing time.
So if you’re like me it really helps to take breaks to clear your head. I am horrible to set down and then work forever; I’m big on getting one task all the way done and sometimes that just not possible when larger projects. Nor is it good just to set for hours and work. Having breaks is a good way to reset and get a fresh start on lengthy projects.
So I know this is hard since right now you can literally spend hours scrolling through social media sites to try and stay up to date with everything that is happening. But you need to give yourself a break so you can focus on your work. I know several phone allow you to lock your apps. I personally just put my phone down and work for a while before picking it up again.
I personally like to work with a lap desk for my laptop but you can set up a desk space at a table or maybe you already have a desk. Whichever space works best for you just tell yourself this is where you’re going to be working for the day. I also like to have music or the tv on in the background since this helps me but you may find that you do better with no distractions or quite.
Along with setting up your space know that testing your technology is a great way to be prepared. Especially if you have meets on Zoom or Skype. Testing these can help you feel more comfortable when it’s actually time to go to a meeting.
Lastly with working on the computer you may want to invest in blue light glasses this way your eyes don’t feel as fatigued. Another good option is to look in to an ergonomical laptop desk or standing desk. These can help you be more active and keep you comfortable when working.
In conclusion these are my top 10 working from home tips. I think these really help when you’re starting out and need direction. I also think these help you to be more productive and truly get you going for working from home.
