Thinking about learning to be a web coder or a web developer. Are you wondering what you need to know to get started in this fun technology world? These are my top tips, essential skills and important things that you should know before getting started.
Just like with anything you want to learn starting with the basics is a great place to begin. You can’t go wrong learning HTML and CSS. These are the foundation for everything on the internet. There are so many great sources, most are free and completely online that you can choose to learn from. Or if your really passionate about it you can purse a degree from you choice of college. I started out blogging and learning code online over 10 years ago and that lead me to choose a degree in technology and web design. Even today I still use online resources and free classes to keep up to date and learning. These are some great resources to start learning from:
I cannot stress this one enough. You have to want to look for what you want to learn. I almost guarantee that somewhere out there on the internet someone else has already written or partly written the coding you’re looking for. Being able to sift through all the information is necessary. Also, Googling can save you time and effort when working on projects.
Just like the saying you can’t have a strong building with a weak foundation. It’s the same with coding. Knowing the basics and the fundamentals will help you so much more than going all in on a super hard project. Getting acquainted with the basics and building from there is a great way to get started and to really understand what you’re coding and how your code works.
Same as with Googling you cannot learn everything there is to know for coding. You can learn the most popular codes for specific things. That is why it is necessary to have good research skills so that you can learn and use your resources efficiently.
This can be accomplished by joining coding communities though social media or on Github. This can help you become a better coder since your peers will be able to help you with your code. This also can help you learn more and better ways to code. As well as give you support to keep going and learning coding.
Like with learning anything its best to set reachable goals and work towards them. This way you can have an objective in mind when working on your coding skills. This can be a big motivational booster. It’s as simple as starting with a basic website with HTML and CSS and then moving in to more complicated dynamic webpages using python. Javascripting, or PHP.
So there are so many tools and frameworks that you can start working with. I would suggest picking ones that are interesting to you and the goals you want to accomplish. I personally like working in Visual Code Studio. It allows several different code types and it’s fairly easy to use. I also have been working with bootstrap as a framework for CSS. There will be more tutorials coming soon for these. Let me know in the comments what you want to learn.
I think this is a big one. Since there are so many great coders out there. Being inspired gives you the drive to keep learning a push yourself. For me it’s not just coders that inspire me to keep learning and growing but other characters that are strong and fight for what they want. I would say that is the biggest encouragement.
Don’t forget to test your code. This is a big one because coding it great but if it doesn’t work then it’s useless. So always test your code. Testing can also show you other flaws. It may also help you to design things better one you see how they work on screen.
Lastly be patient and understand that it takes time to learn coding, design and computer applications. Know that you can keep going and that even if it something small that you’re making progress and learning.
Final words getting in to coding can be a daunting task but if you really want to learn about it you can. There are so many great people that can help you and resources on the internet now that you can virtually teach yourself anything.
